Offers for Comox Valley Region Residents

The Comox Valley Regional District has teamed up with City Green Solutions and the Home Energy Navigator Program to offer home energy-efficiency support and resources to Courtenay residents. An Energy Concierge will help you understand the concept of energy efficiency for your home, identify which upgrades are best suited to your needs and priorities, and guide you in taking the first steps toward enhancing your home’s comfort.

Please note that the Village of Cumberland and the three CVRD electoral areas are no longer participating in the Home Energy Navigator Program. However, this does not mean that climate action within the CVRD is coming to an end. For updates on upcoming energy-saving initiatives, please refer to the CVRD’s Regional Climate Action Strategy for future plans.

This is on top of the CVRD plan that has implemented a Residential Emissions Reduction Action Plan to reduce GHG emissions from the building sector by 50% by 2030 (from 2007 levels).  The Home Energy Navigator is one contributing component of this plan.

We’ll connect you with an Energy Concierge who will discuss your project in a free virtual consultation, advise on next steps, and provide support throughout your retrofit journey. Complete a program intake form to outline key energy efficiency concerns as well as upgrade goals for your home and we’ll provide ongoing support.

Getting Started

Getting started can be a daunting task. We can help. The Home Energy Navigator Program provides support and resources to help you learn what energy efficiency means for your home, identify what upgrades are best suited to your home and priorities, and take the steps to improve your home’s comfort. Every home’s journey is unique but we’ve summarized the key points below – checking rebate and permitting requirements early will help you plan and save you headaches later on.

  1. Join the Home Energy Navigator Program and get connected with an Energy Concierge.  You can register online here for your free virtual Home Energy Consultation.
  2. Check what provincial rebates and federal grants are available and what requirements you need to fulfill.  You can search for rebates on the CleanBC Better Homes website.  Your Energy Concierge will also help you identify what’s applicable to your plans.
  3. Have a Home Energy Consultation to answer questions about your home’s needs and to help turn your goals and priorities into concrete actions.
  4. Access additional rebate support by contacting a CleanBC Better Homes Energy Coach for more information on rebates.
  5. Consider having an EnerGuide Home Evaluation. Some programs require one before completing upgrades and certain
permitting scenarios may require one. You can find an Energy Advisor online.
  6. Check what permitting requirements are needed for your project once you’ve outlined the work you plan on completing and before you start your work.
  7. Obtain quotes from at least 3 contractors to ensure you select the system that best suits your budget and priorities. You can find contractors online.
  8. Complete your upgrades.
  9. Apply for rebates and grants.

Rebates and Financing for CVRD Residents

Space heating and water heating account for over half of a home’s energy consumption. Many rebate programs are encouraging the upgrade to high-efficiency heating and hot water systems. The benefits include lower utility bills, improved comfort in your home, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) offers various rebates to residents in both municipal and electoral areas, and you might qualify for financial incentives to make your property more environmentally friendly.

We help you navigate retrofits and rebates

Your Energy Concierge will help you navigate the Retrofit Roadmap through first steps, selecting and understanding upgrades, reviewing documentation and eligibility for rebates, and identifying the rebates you can access.

Below you’ll find some of the key rebate programs available in the CVRD.
